You know what alot of people hate spending money on? Postage.
Sure, the price of postage has almost doubled since I was a kid, but it's still under a buck.
Whenever I finish preaching in a neighborhood I'm assigned to, I run all the not-at-homes I have through yellow.com and write letters to each address I get an actual name for. Last time, I had to mail 40 letters. It cost $18 to mail them. The reaction of many to that is "it's so expensive!"
You know how long it would take me to hand deliver those envelopes? I think $18 is worth it.
Really, you're spending 44 cents for a service that would cost you hours of time, and perhaps a couple hundred bucks (depending on where you're going) to perform yourself.
We waste money on all kinds of things. If you buy new clothes from a store, by default you're wasting money. Retail stores (even Walmart) won't sell anything for less than 2 1/2 times what they're worth. Since it's clothes, we get excited, especially if it was 'on sale'.
I have a friend that thinks $30 for a single person at a restaurant she likes is a 'not too expensive', but she balks at buying stamps to send off her letters.
I think the only reason people hate buying stamps is because stamps are not fun. They're associated with humorless postal workers, paying bills and standing in line. So we turn it into
"Postage is so expensive!"

Plus, stamps are SO SMALL! They look like they should be worth 5 cents!
People act the same way about stamps as they do about gas - "Oh no! The cost went up again!" Sure, both are overpriced but they're necessary evils. If you use them up sensibly, it's worth what you've spent.
